Charles Reed (1887-88)
[Born 11 Oct, died 1892]
William Charles Reed's first engagement with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company came in April 1887 when he replaced Joseph W. Herbert as Robin Oakapple with Carte's Second American Ruddygore Company at Boston's Globe Theatre. He appeared as Robin until the run ended in May of that year. He returned to Great Britain as a chorister and understudy at some point, appearing on tour with Carte's (Pinafore and Pirates) Company "E" in May 1888.
Reed later appeared in Charles Hoyt musicals (A Rag Baby and A Brass Monkey) in Boston and New York in 1888-89. He performed regularly in New York into the 1890s, his last appearance in a comedy called Hoss and Hoss in October-December 1891. He died shortly thereafter.
