Arthur Rees as the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance

Arthur Rees (1925-27)

Arthur Rees made a couple of appearances at the Old Vic (in Faust) and the Adelphi (in Love's Prisoner) before joining the D'Oyly Carte "New" Opera Company in December 1925. He toured for a year-and-a-half as Colonel Calverley in Patience (1925-27), the Mikado in The Mikado (1925-26), Sir Roderick Murgatroyd in Ruddigore (1925-27), the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance (1926-27), and Sergeant Bouncer in Cox and Box (1926-27). He left the D'Oyly Carte organization in June 1927.

In the late 1930s he returned to the London Stage as the Duke of Salisbury in Shakespeare's Henry V (Drury Lane, September-October 1938) and Kingwolf in the pantomime Red Riding Hood (Covent Garden, December 1938-February 1939).
