Born Amba Reith Elliott, Amba Reith was a professional opera singer in her early years, appearing as "prima donna" with the Imperial Grand Opera in the 1920s, and was invited to audition with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, by Sir Thomas Beecham in 1935.
Miss Reith was engaged as a soprano chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company from November 1944 to December 1946. She married fellow D'Oyly Carte chorister Ronald Lindsay in 1945.
