THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Irene Ware (1878)
[Born Lewiston, Maine 1850, died New Malden, Surrey 8 Mar 1909]
Irene Grace Adams was married to a Lafayette Ware in 1869. She moved to London in the mid-1870s, and there enrolled in the Royal Academy of Music where she studied under Alberto Randegger. She had a number of concert engagements at the Crystal Palace and elsewhere in 1876 and 1877 under her married name.
In December 1877 she was singing in Liverpool, but shortly thereafter she was engaged by D’Oyly Carte to play Aline in The Sorcerer at the Opera Comique. Her appearances there in January and February 1878 may have been her only theatrical work. She returned to concerts and occasional oratorio work, performing these as late as 1884. She ultimately settled in New Malden to teach music.
