THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Lucie Watson (1878)
Lucie Watson appeared in the chorus of The Sorcerer and Trial by Jury with the touring Comedy Opera Company Ltd. under the management of Richard D'Oyly Carte, March-August 1878.
When the rift occurred between Carte and the directors of the Comedy Opera Company at the end of July 1879, Miss Watson was engaged by the directors. She played the small part of Maria in the companion piece After All during the directors' unauthorized (by Gilbert, Sullivan, or Carte) production at the Royal Olympic Theatre, where the opera ultimately closed in October for lack of public support.
