Walter Wells (1890-98)
[Born Welton, Lincolnshire 1858]
Walter Wells was reportedly a chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company from 1890 to 1898. His career included stints with D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "C" (1890 or 1891 until November 1896), a tour of South Africa (December 1896-June 1897), and D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "B" (July 1897).
A bass, he appeared as Guron in Princess Ida (in January and July 1896), the Foreman of the Jury in Trial by Jury (briefly, August 1896, and in South Africa), the Lieutenant of the Tower in The Yeomen of the Guard and Giorgio in The Gondoliers (both in South Africa). When that Company returned to Southport, England, as D'Oyly Carte Opera Company "B" in July 1897, Wells sang the Foreman and Giorgio.
Wells was married to D'Oyly Carte chorister Ina Hadden.
