[Born Sedbergh, Yorkshire c.1822, died Lambeth, London 1882]
Baritone John Whitwell embarked on a musical career late in life. First as a solist at the New Music Hall, Euston Square, later as vocal director at Westminster Hall, Southwark, and finally in his late 50s as a chorister with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "C" Company on tour in April 1881. He died the following year.
