THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY

Marie Wilson as Kate in The Yeomen of the Guard

Marie Wilson (1906-07)

[Born Hulme, Manchester 10 Dec 1889]

Marie Elsie Wilson joined the D'Oyly Carte Repertory Opera Company on tour in November 1906, giving "tryout" performances as the Elsie Maynard in The Yeomen of the Guard, in anticipation of the First London Repertory Season at the Savoy. She was then cast as Kate when Yeomen opened the Season on December 8, 1906. She remained with the Company for the full season, adding Casilda when The Gondoliers was revived in January 1907, and the Lady Saphir when Patience joined the repertoire in April.

She also filled in briefly for Lillian Coomber as Elsie in January 1907, but later that month yielded Kate to Clara Dow.

Miss Wilson appeared as Casilda and Saphir until the season's close on August 24, 1907. When the London season ended so did Miss Wilson's association with the D'Oyly Carte. She later appeared at Drury Lane as Alice in the children's pantomime Dick Whittington, December 1908-March 1909. She also toured in musical comedy between 1907 and 1911.
