THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Edward Wynn (1906-07)
Tenor Edward (or Edwin) Wynn was with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy for the First London Repertory Season (December 1906-August 1907). He appeared regularly as Francesco in The Gondoliers, and also filled in for a time as Leonard Meryll and Colonel Fairfax in The Yeomen of the Guard (both January 1907) and Marco in The Gondoliers (April 1907).
There is some confusion regarding his first name. Rollins & Witts initially gave it as Edward, but then "corrected" it to Edwin in their second supplement. Wearing gives the name only as E. Wynn, but indicates an Edwin Wynn sang Walther in Tannhäuser at Covent Garden in 1902, and an Edward Wynn sang Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser at Covent Garden in 1903. (Both Walther and Heinrich are tenor roles.) I have a Savoy program for Yeomen, dated 28 January 1907, which shows Colonel Fairfax as Edward Wynn. The only other relevant programs I've seen show only E. Wynn.
