No. 15 - Act II Opening Chorus

MIDI File

Chorus: Sheltered from the noon-day glare
Civilized society
Gazes on the passers by,
Who afford the cultured eye
Plenty of variety;
Faces dark and faces fair,
Sunburnt to a jolly tan,
Visitors from near and far,
As a rule the people are
Very cosmopolitan,
Oh! very cosmopolitan!
Sheltered from the noon-day glare
Civilized society,
Visitors from near and far,
As a rule the people are
Very, very cosmopolitan,
Very, very, very cosmopolitan!

  Some remain awhile
In this busy town,
Some go up the Nile,
Some are coming down;
Some are well-to-do,
Some have incomes small,
Some have aims in view,
Some have none at all,
Some have none at all!
Men: But if there is anyone rather in doubt
How he is going to travel about,
A word of advice to the high-born and low too,
Hooker Pasha is the party to go to.
If there's anyone rather in doubt,
Yes, rather in doubt,
Hooker Pasha is the party to go to,
The party to go to is Hooker Pasha.
All: Hooker Pasha is the party to go to,
Yes, Hooker Pasha,
Yes, Hooker Pasha.
Ensemble: Some remain awhile
In this busy town,
Some go up the Nile,
Some are coming down;
Some are well-to-do,
Some have incomes small,
Some have aims in view,
Some have none at all!
Hooker Pasha, Hooker Pasha,
Hooker Pasha! Hooker Pasha!

  Sheltered from the noon-day glare
Civilized society,
Visitors from near and far,
As a rule the people are
Very, very cosmopolitan,
Very, very, very cosmopolitan!

1st. Traveller: I want to cross the desert, but it fills me with alarms;
Chorus: Hooker Pasha will fit you out an escort under arms!
2nd. Traveller: And I should like some camels, but I don't know where to buy them!
Chorus: Hooker Pasha has some in stock, we're sure he will supply them!
3rd. Traveller: The Pyramids one ought to see, and other things besides.
Chorus: Hooker Pasha will recommend the very best of guides!
4th. Traveller: I want a good interpreter, for words are apt to fail one.
Chorus: Hooker Pasha can let you have a female or a male one!
  Oh, he is a wonderful man,
And few have an influence wider;
We bow to him since he's a sort of a prince,
But a most universal provider.
If you would explore the Soudan,
Or toil up the Pyramid slopes
Get hold of this Whiteley
And ask him politely
If he'll put you up to the ropes!
Oh, he is a wonderful man,
And few have an influence wider;
We bow to him since he's a sort of a prince,
But a most universal provider.
If you would explore the Soudan,
Or toil up the Pyramid slopes
Get hold of this Whiteley
And ask him politely
If he'll put you up to the ropes!
Hooker Pasha! Hooker Pasha! Pasha!
