Lillias Maud Engholm was a chorister, small part player, and understudy who began with the D'Oyly Carte Principal Repertory Opera Company on its December 1905 to July 1906 tour of South Africa. From April to October 1908 she was in the Savoy chorus for the first part of the Second London Repertory Season, appearing from September 27 to October 1 as Jenny Jones in the Fenn & Faraday companion piece A Welsh Sunset. When the Repertory Company resumed touring on October 26, 1908, she was with them, appearing regularly as Fleta and Giulia in The Gondoliers until she left the Company in December 1909. She also served for a time as Isabel in The Pirates of Penzance (October-November 1908) and Chloe (October 1908-April 1909), and filled in briefly for principal soubrette Beatrice Meredith in January 1909 as Pitti-Sing in The Mikado and Phoebe Meryll in The Yeomen of the Guard.
