Alexandra Hann (1979-82)
Alexandra Hann won a Gilbert & Sullivan competitive award at the Guildhall School prior to joining the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in January 1979. She assumed the small part of Fleta in Iolanthe in October 1979, and over the next two seasons appeared on occasion as Giulia in The Gondoliers, Isabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, and Rose Maybud in Ruddigore. When Madeleine Hudson left the Company in July 1981, Miss Hann added Isabel to her regular duties. She remained with the D'Oyly Carte until its last night, February 27, 1982.
Miss Hann was in the Sadler's Wells Opera chorus for H.M.S. Pinafore and The Gondoliers in 1984, and played Zorah in the New Sadler's Wells 1987 production of Ruddigore.
She also appeared with "The Magic of D'Oyly Carte" productions of The Mikado and The Pirates of Penzance in October 1986, and sang with Welsh National Opera in 1989. She was for a time married to fellow D'Oyly Carte artist Alan Rice.
