Thomas Scholey (1974-82)
After four years at the Guildhall School of Music, bass-baritone Thomas Scholey joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company chorus in September 1974. Through March 1979 he was an understudy who filled in on occasion as Second Yeoman in The Yeomen of the Guard, Private Willis in Iolanthe, Guron in Princess Ida, and Go-To in The Mikado.
In March 1979 Scholey took over the part of Go-To from Jon Ellison, and in September of that year added Second Yeoman to his regular duties following the departure of Gareth Jones. He would play both roles for the remainder of his D'Oyly Carte career. He also substituted occasionally as Giorgio and Annibale in The Gondoliers during the 1979-80 season. Scholey remained with the Company until its last night in February 1982.
