THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Lina St. Ives (1884)
[Born Calcutta]
Lina St. Ives, presumably a chorister and understudy, filled in briefly for Florence Dysart as Princess Ida in Princess Ida on tour with Mr. D'Oyly Carte's "A" ("Princess Ida" No. 2) Company in June 1884, and again in September of that year following Miss Dysart's departure. Later that month, Evelyn Ward took over the role.
Miss St. Ives appeared in London as Mrs. Nimblepenny in Arthur Chapman and J. M. Capel's musical comedietta The Composer (Strand, January-April 1892). She was married to its composer, J. M. Capel. In addition to composing the music for The Composer, Mr. Capel also appeared as Jack Temple in his own work.
