Mary Sibylle "Tibs" Thomas joined the D'Oyly Carte Repertory Opera Company chorus in January 1923, serving until June 1928. After an eleven-month leave of absence she rejoined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in May 1929, remaining in the chorus until June 1934. Six years later she returned to the Company once more, serving in the chorus again from September 1940 to August 1946.

While with the Company she married Jerome Stephens, himself a D'Oyly Carte chorister for four seasons (1923-27), and later the Company's stage manager (1949-61).
