THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Cora Tinnie as Vittoria in The Gondoliers |
Cora Tinnie (1890-92)
Cora Tinnie appeared in Boston with E. E. Rice's companies in 1888 and 1889. In February 1890 she was one of the replacements engaged by D'Oyly Carte for the restaging of The Gondoliers at Palmer's Theatre, taking the role of Vittoria. In March she filled in briefly for Mary Duggan as Tessa. She continued to appear as Vittoria when the Company returned to the British Isles as Carte's "D" Company (May-July 1890).
We then lose track of her for eleven months in which she may have been engaged in the chorus at the Savoy or on tour. In June 1891 she created the role of Tiffin in The Nautch Girl at the Savoy (June 1891-January 1892), then appeared there as Blanche in The Vicar of Bray beginning in January 1892. She left the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and, it appears, the stage in March 1892.
