THE D'OYLY CARTE OPERA COMPANY
Miss Twyman (1883-84)
[Born Margate 1868, died Canterbury 13 Jul 1920]
Miss Lily Twyman was a young mezzo-soprano or contralto chorister with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company at the Savoy in 1883 and 1884. She filled in briefly for Rosina Brandram as Mrs. Frumpington in the companion piece A Private Wire, probably in September 1883 when Miss Brandram was deputizing as Iolanthe in Iolanthe. Miss Twyman next created the small part of Ada in Princess Ida on January 5, 1884. She was out of the role (succeeded by Lilian Carr), and likely out of the cast, later that month.
